Max Lamb’s Solid Textile Board benches demonstrate the potential of the material.

Really: Designing Materials for Circularity, Salone del Mobile Milan, 2017

Continuing our work with Danish textile leader Kvadrat, we were engaged to launch Really, a new initiative in partnership with Kvadrat to upcycle end-of-life textiles into new materials for design and architecture. For its debut collection, Solid Textile Board, Jane and Njusja de Gier of Kvadrat co-curated the exhibition Really: Designing Materials for Circularity at the Salone del Mobile. The exhibition presents commissioned projects by designers Christien Meindertsma and Max Lamb. Meindertsma distilled the story of Solid Textile Board’s making into an animation and limited edition book titled A Single Sample, Really. Lamb demonstrated the potential of the material, designed for the circular economy through a series of 12 benches. As well as showcasing a new material, our intent is to initiate a dialogue about the shifts in perception, processes and logistics needed to grapple with the challenges of upcycling waste.
