Atelier LUMA: Bioregional Design Practices, 2023
Jane is a contributor to Atelier LUMA: Bioregional Design Practices, a book about the design research programme of LUMA Arles. Atelier LUMA is dedicated to exploring new ways of using natural and renewable resources in design and architecture on a bioregional scale. This retrospective publication brings together projects and research conducted over the past four years and exemplifies their working approach and methodology.
Atelier LUMA’s work is contextualised by contributions from authors who are taking action in the same social, environmental and design realm. Jane’s essay discusses ‘Empowering the Vernacular’, demonstrating ways in which deep ecological knowledge is informing contemporary design responses to the escalating climate emergency.
Designed by Studio Joost Grootens, the book takes the form of a manual, juxtaposing different forms of documentation.
